A is for Action

The ABC’s of Mindsets… A is for Action.

Do you have an action mindset?

People who have an action mindset don’t wait for things to be 100% perfect or for the stars to align before acting. They tend to take action even in suboptimal circumstances because non-action kills momentum and can drain the energy.

Action-minded individuals typically have the following traits:

  1. Proactive - They are always looking for ways to make things happen and take the initiative on projects.

  2. Resourceful - They find creative and innovative solutions to problems.

  3. Goal Oriented - They set clear goals and work diligently to achieve them.

  4. Driven - They have a strong determination and won't give up until they reach their desired outcomes.

  5. Growth Oriented - They are continuously learning and striving to improve.

Action minded individuals understand that some risks may be necessary in order to achieve their goals and to get things accomplished.

Nothing is ever going to be perfect, so don't wait for perfection to act.

  • Action can cure fear, and fear is what is stopping you from taking action.

  • Don't wait for inspiration. Start acting and the inspiration will come.

  • Always be thinking NOW, not later.

  • Take initiative, others will respect this.

You can have the best ideas or intentions ever but if it takes you forever to get them up and going you may never know how great the ideas actually are. Conditions will never be perfect. Get creative with your hurdles and present conditions in order to ensure you are not hindering yourself in taking action.

When we put off our goals because we’re afraid of the potential roadblocks ahead, we do our excellent ideas a disservice. These ideas — what we could have accomplished — can come back to haunt us.

Inaction = lost opportunities and regret

Having an Action Mindset gives your ideas value by acting upon them.

By acting you gain peace of mind and confidence. They are no longer afraid of the unknown because they know it.

  • Action destroys fear and creates confidence.

  • Are you dreading making a certain phone call? Once you make the call, positive or negative outcome, the fear is no longer there.

  • It is the determination to move from thinking about doing something to actually doing it even when the challenges appear greater than your perceived resources.

  • It is moving from thought to action one small step at a time every single day in pursuit of an overall goal.

  • It is checking in with yourself and asking if I say ‘Yes’ or ‘No’ to this, how does it affect my overall goal?

  • It is having the resolve to learn from your mistakes and your successes to see what you can do better and differently the next time.

  • It is being kind and compassionate to yourself but not feeling sorry for yourself.

  • It is spending time with positive and kind people who have your back no matter what.

  • It is holding onto hope and placing one foot in front of the other.

An action mindset contributes to how you approach your goals and determines the level of your motivation in pursuit of that goal. Having an action mindset is about taking a leap of faith and ‘trusting in the magic of action’.

An action mindset awakens potential. It is not about pretending that everything is ok, easy or simple. In fact, it is about recognizing that life is often the opposite, and giving yourself permission to acknowledge how you feel and then push through anyway.

Keeping an action mindset takes time and is not easy. However, our minds are built to dream and our hopes are programmed to reach towards seemingly impossible goals yet there are thousands of courageous stories that show us anything is possible. Why not choose your goal, your dream or your future, design your own version of success and adapt an action mindset to guide you towards it?

Lean into your Action Mindset. What’s the worst that could happen? It will definitely cause you to grow as an advisor and business owner.
