Your Bio, Your Story

Having a good real estate bio is an important step in capturing the attention of potential clients. A great bio should include key details about your experience, qualifications and services, as well as some of your personality and values. I recommend updating your bio every 6 months. Doing so helps keep your profile up-to-date, relevant and attractive to google, potential clients and associates. Additionally, if you get a new certification or gain valuable expertise in an area, you can use your bio to showcase those accomplishments and show how you’ve grown as a professional.

Start by introducing yourself and your business and then explain why you became an agent and why you’re passionate about the industry. Be sure to highlight any special skills, awards or certifications you may have. Additionally, provide a few examples of how you’ve helped past clients. Finish your bio with contact information and a few sentences that show you’re personable and inviting. This will help potential clients learn more about you and make it easier for them to reach out.

Connecting with like-minded individuals…

Adding archetype descriptive words into your bio helps to give a better understanding of who you are, what you stand for and what values you bring to the table. It helps to create a compelling and unique profile that resonates with an audience, forming a lasting impression. Archetypes provide an easy way to communicate complex ideas quickly and can give people a better understanding of who you are. They can also help to create a sense of connection and understanding with an audience, allowing them to more easily relate to you and your message.

Don’t know your personality style? Take the following quiz to find how you could best relate to like-minded clients.

By including information about your experience, qualifications and goals in the real estate industry, you can build a connection with potential customers and establish yourself as an expert in the field. Additionally, you can use your bio to showcase your unique skills and strengths as an agent, as well as mention any awards, accolades and certifications you have earned. A detailed bio can also help you connect with customers who have similar interests or values as you, as you can highlight your values and beliefs and how they influence your work.

Finally, an in depth bio can also be beneficial for getting referrals, as customers may be more likely to recommend you to their friends and family if they know more about you and your credentials. All in all, making an in depth bio can be beneficial for finding more like minded real estate customers. No advisor can work with everyone, why not work with people that you can easily relate to, and vice versa.

Keep in mind the difference between a personal bio and a resume. Your resume is a list of your professional roles. Your personal bio digs deeper than this and gives readers an insight into things like:

  • Your interests outside of work

  • Your backstory

  • What gets you up in the morning

  • Your passions and values

  • Your goals

My top pick of questions to ask yourself when writing a personal bio:

  1. What do I want to communicate about myself in this bio?

  2. What makes me unique and sets me apart from other advisors?

  3. What experiences do I want to highlight?

  4. How would my clients describe me and the services I provide?

  5. What are my professional and personal accomplishments?

  6. What committees have I been apart of or association connections that I value?

  7. What are the top one or two things I want readers to take away from my bio?

  8. What personality trait words should I be using to attract like-minded individuals?

Want to have some fun with it? Add some additional statements at the end that really uncover your true personality, such as these examples:

  1. If I could sell one home owned by someone famous, that homeowner would be …

  2. One or two of the characteristics of a home that I look most forward to seeing when walking into a home I have yet to tour would be …

  3. If my personality was a home decor style, I would be …

  4. If I was a smart home feature, I would be …

  5. The one over the top luxury home feature I would love to have in my home would be …

In answering these questions be sure to elaborate, giving a few details about why you choose to share this info; this allows potential clients to connect with your personality.  Remember to have fun with it.

Making people smile or laugh is the perfect way to make yourself memorable.

*Keep in mind that as you update your bio, your brokerage name and contact info is required by KREC & MREC.
